Arriving at the mountain resort for an event by invitation, only and wondering why I was invited, I accepted the festivities unraveling this first night. People gathered appeared too relaxed, imbibing cocktails, and dancing carefree to loud music under strings of white lights, glittering in strands, hung from the branches of the overhead trees. I stepped into my room to relive myself, when suddenly the lights went out, creating a darkness met by an unearthly void of silence, absent of the dance music and voices partying. I opened the door, met by a man cloaked in a blue shrouded cloak, covering his head. The full moon’s glow filtered through the trees, highlighting this man’s iridescent blue eyes, drawing me to him. Consumed with intrigue, I stepped closer, my body shaking, waves of chills ricocheted beneath my skin. He spoke, shattering the stark void of silence, “I finally have met you. Don’t be alarmed. I chose you to celebrate the solstice.”
I stood shaking, uttering a question. “Where did everyone go?”
“Don’t be alarmed. They are being entertained too. Come with me.” Extending his hands, he pulled me away from the security of my room, the last vestige of my security.
