Sitting in the hotel’s cocktail lounge late that night enjoying tranquil bliss with a glass of fine Pinot Noir, Trent noticed the man he saw by the pool in the afternoon. He remembered this man, an attractive man, dark, glistening hair. He had been arguing with a younger man at the pool earlier in the afternoon. Trent believed the two were lovers caught in an embarrassing quarrel. The younger man, eventually, had left the pool, loudly, screaming vicious epitaphs.
Trent admired the current, composed demeanor the man portrayed as he sat in his barstool slowly, swirling the straw in his cocktail. He found him extremely sexually appealing but was apprehensive in furthering any stimulation more than what he fantasized. The man tilted his head in Trent’s direction. Their eyes locked, until this person lifted his glass in a toast and smiled. Trent reciprocated, nervously and thought. I haven’t been with another man since…- well, Cory left me. Besides, he might be some sociopath. Trent returned staring out to the view of the swimming pool, then deserted and dark.
“I’m Jeb.” Trent heard the voice behind him. “I hope I’m not disturbing you.”
“Oh, hi, I’m Trent. I didn’t mean to stare. I was just…”
“No problem. I liked the attention.” Jeb sat in the vacant chair next to Trent. Are you on vacation?”
“Yes.” Trent studied the man’s body language, slowly, discovering someone alone and wounded in the soul, who was who was looking for a friend or simply something more like companionship. “I saw you by the pool this afternoon.”
“Hell, I apologize for the negative scene that occurred. That fight started a couple of years ago. He has gone back to Los Angeles. It’s finally over. I’m staying a couple of days until Cody moves all his belongings out of the house.”
“You seem different tonight. I don’t know- maybe a bit of serenity. Definitely calmer.”
It was 1:40 in the morning. The bar would be closing soon.
Trent flagged the bartender to order two more drinks. “Would you like me to listen?”
“It’s late but I could use another Manhattan.”
Drinking and talking for twenty minutes until two, they agreed to walk around the resort.
After strolling through the terraced gardens circumventing the hotel, they stopped at the darkened pool gate. “You’ve listened to the last five years of my life.” Zeb paused. “I don’t know anything about you. Why did you listen for this past hour?”
“I haven’t been with another man for years. I find you extremely, uh, you turn me on.” Trent blushed, appreciated the dim lighting, hiding the bright red color on his face.
“Thank you. I’ve had a fantasy since we’ve been talking. Zeb’s eyes stared at Trent’s crotch, zeroing in on Trent’s erection bulging through his Khakis. “I’d like us to go naked in the pool. I’ve never found a man in my age group who’s so hot.”
“What if someone comes?”
“Not likely. I’ve come down here by myself. What do I have to do to prompt you?”
“I’m a little nervous, but okay.”
Quietly they went through the gate and undressed, their hands toughing each uncovered part of the others body. Trent’s hard erection was matched by Zeb’s. Holding hands they jumped in the deepest section of the pool. Holding each other, they kissed beneath the water’s surface. Finding love again, Trent hoped this kiss was meant for more than one night
