Glenn and Billie walk along the boardwalk after breakfast for a walk along Moonstone Beach on the last day of their honeymoon.
Pagan Knights of Cambria Nights
“We had beautiful weather.” Billie kept pace with Glenn’s rapid stride.
“The clouds look ominous though, and it’s getting windy.” Glenn pointed to the dark clouds. “Let’s go to the cove where we went the first night. Maybe we can let Bradley run off his leash.”
“You just want to finish that dream you had this morning.”
“My leg is starting to hurt.”
“You can sit on the benches along the way and rest. “
When they passed Cambria Shores, Billie sat down to rest.
When they reached the rickety, wooden stairs, Billie glanced down to the beach. “When we get down there, I have to sit down again.”
“You just want to repeat the frolic we had before.”
“There are too many people around this morning. They’d see us.”
Stepping down the stairs to the gravely sand, they didn’t notice anyone else on the beach.
They walked back toward the cliff to sit on the large, driftwood log.
Bradley started barking ferociously at something behind them.
“What’s that behind the other log?” Glenn noticed a figure.
“It must be someone sleeping.”
As they got closer, Glenn said, “I don’t think he’s sleeping.” Glenn was startled. “He’s half naked.”
“Look at that bloody gash on his head. Let’s take a closer look.” Billie urged.
“You look.” Glenn hesitated.
Billie walked over to the body, lying on its back. “Uh oh; it’s Jorge’s partner. Isn’t his name Gilbert?”
Glenn walked Bradley to check out Billie’s revelation. “Sure is.”
“What are we going to do?” Billie trembled.
Glenn spotted Gilbert’s clothes strewn nearby, and then a bloody rock.
Sirens echoed from the road above.
