Lying exhausted on the bed side by side, they relaxed, their breathing resuming normalcy.
Billie was wet with sweat. “Would you like to take a shower?” he asked.
“Yes, I think I could use one.”
When Billie started to dress, Glenn interrupted his progress. “Why don’t you take one with me?”
“The shower's too small.”
“I’m sure we both can fit in.”
They showered together, lathering and rinsing each other, thoroughly. Billie languished in the continued physical attentiom Glenn made with each stroke and carress of his hands.
“I’m off work tomorrow too." While they they dried off, Glenn proposed an invitation. "Why don’t you come for dinner and spend the night?”
“That sounds great.” Billie accepted, nervously.
“I told you I like men with hairy chests.” Glenn finished dressing in his clothes. “And..., I like your big dick too.”
“I’m not that big.”
“Yes you are. You have my address for tomorrow. How’s seven? Do you need directions?”
“Seven’s fine. I’ll call, if I get lost.”
Glenn kissed him at the front door. “I had a good time.” He said good-bye and departed.
Billie watched him drive away, excited but cautious with their first date. So what did he really think? Who’s going to be the teacher? Him or me? I’m out of practice. It’s been fifteen years. Shit! He’s just come out. I need to talk to someone. I can’t talk to Paul. The way he left, seeing us in the hot tub. I know he’s hurt, if not mad. But I should call him.
Billie hesitated to pick up the phone but finally dialed Paul’s number. When the answering machine picked up, Billie left a message, asking him to return his call.
The following morning, Billie waited for Paul to pick him up for coffee. Paul hadn’t answered the three messages Billie left the day before.
Finally after calling him with still no answer and no sign of him picking him up for their daily rendezvous at Rumors, Billie drove to the bar alone, expecting Paul there.
But Billie had coffee and a beer alone, ignoring the plethora of questions from the bartender and other patrons, inquiring about Paul and an explanation for his absence. Billie was pissed off. No one was interested in Billie, except as being Paul's partner. Billie never attempted to explain their relationship, since he found Paul tenaciously wanting more than Billie was willing to offer. Leaving half the beer in his pitcher, he rushed to confront Paul, deciding to stop by his house on his way home, planning to ask him about his failure to respond to his messages and any rumors he may have been spreading.
There was no need to knock on his door; Paul’s familiar Explorer was gone.
Billie was concerned, knowing it wasn’t like Paul to disappear without an explanation. He drove home, disturbed, where he would try to concentrate on his second date with Glenn.
