Kane, nervously, waited for Rex in the small lobby of the exquisite Dom le Reaus condominiums. Kane had no idea Rex lived in such an exclusive living environment
Kane dialed the number, announcing his arrival.
Rex spoke over the intercom. “You’re here already? Give me a minute. I just stepped out of the shower. No, I’ll buzz you in. I’ll leave the door cracked open. Help yourself to a drink.”
Kane opened the security door and scanned the courtyard, lush with blooming annuals, green foliage, and a pond with a waterfall, like some designer’s dream garden.
Walking through to the ornate pathway of smooth stepping stones, set in gray mortar, he found Rex’s apartment with the door slightly ajar. “I’m here,” he announced.
“There’s Stoli on the top of the bar. Cranberry juice is in the small refrigerator beneath.”
Stepping, slowly, through the entrance, he perused the living room. He has the designer talent. It’s simple, slightly modern but eclectic, not as much as my overcrowded furnished mess. I need a drink. I wonder what he has planned for dinner. I don’t smell anything cooking.
Filling a crystal glass with ice from the ice bucket, he poured his regular cocktail, a Cape Cod. He noticed a small deck outside a large sliding glass door. He opened the screen, surprised to see charcoals burning in a small Hibachi and not an expensive grill.
He lit a cigarette, waiting, nervously, for Rex. I hope he hasn’t made a huge effort for dinner. After the lunch I fixed for our first date I don’t want to be humiliated. How was I supposed to know he doesn’t care for fish when I baked Orange Roughy in a cream dill sauce? And he hates fruit. Why did I scallop a cantaloupe and fill it with melon balls and blueberries? I think I made him sick. I’m surprised he wanted a second date. Damn! We didn’t even have sex. My fault; I wasn’t ready.
“I’m finally ready.” Rex joined Kane on the deck. “I thought you would be late. Sorry to make you wait.”
“No, I apologize; I was a little early.”
“At least, we’re together for our second date. I hope you like what I’m fixing. And I don’t want you rushing off after dinner. I expect a little more action tonight than at your place.”
“I’m sorry. I blew dinner for you. And you’re the first man I’ve dated in four years. I’m a little hesitant.”
“I hope you won’t be tonight. Let me fix myself a cocktail, while I get dinner going. You can put on some music. It’s a small collection but you might find something you like.” Rex retreated inside the condo.
Kane stayed on the deck to finish his cigarette for a few minutes, peaking glances back at Rex. He looks so sexually inviting in his shorts and tank-top. How could I push him away the first time? I’m lucky he wants to try again. I hope I don’t blow it.
He extinguished the butt of his smoke and went back into the living room to refresh his drink.
“I hope you like the movie Pretty Woman.” Rex joined him with his cocktail.
“I’ve never seen it.”
“You’ll love it. Richard Gere is so hot. And I love Julia Roberts. I’ll put it on in the bedroom, while I cook dinner.” Rex led Kane to his bedroom, inserted the CD in his DVD player. “Dinner is a surprise. So enjoy this. If you need another cocktail, just shout it out.”
Kane stretched out on the bed, sipping his drink and viewing the movie, but his thoughts focused on Rex. Why is he making such a fuss over me? I shouldn’t have had another chance with someone like him. I’m embarrassed by his attention. I hope he doesn’t go overboard with dinner.
Half an hour later, Rex intervened. “Dinner’s ready. Why don’t you go out on the balcony and have a smoke?”
“Why all this secrecy? I’m overwhelmed with just you. You shouldn’t have gone all out for dinner after what served you for lunch last week.”
“I have my eyes on you. And I expect you to stay the night. Now we’ll finish the movie later. Get your ass out on the deck.”
Kane obliged his request. He sat on a deck chair and smoked, nervously, two cigarettes one after another. He didn’t know how to respond to Rex’s request to spend the night. What if I can’t perform? It’s been several years since I’ve had sex.
Rex came out and joined him. “We’re eating in the bedroom in our underwear. I’m going to hide your clothes, so you don’t escape. Come on in now. We’ll undress in the living room.”
Rex, quickly, disrobed, showing off his body in a blue jockstrap. Waiting, impatiently, for Kane to undress, Rex deemed it necessary to speed it up. He pulled off his polo shirt, while Kane lowered his Levis, leaving only his bikini briefs.
“Now, come with me. Dinner is waiting.” Rex grabbed his hands and led him to the bedroom.
Kane glanced at the tables set. “Shit! You did go overboard with dinner. How’d you know I’d like lobster? And Filet Mignon?”
“That’s a twice baked potato.” Rex disclosed his secret recipe. “It has cheddar cheese and bacon. It was my mother’s recipe. I hope you like the lemon butter sauce. And the wine is a Pinot Noir. I know you drink Merlot. You might like this.”
“Dinner looks fantastic, but where’s yours?”
“In a minute. I barbecued pork chops for me.” Now sit, eat, and get ready to finish that movie with me. By the way you won’t see the end. You’ll be too busy with me in bed.” Rex leaned towards Kale and kissed him, inserting his tongue through his lips.
When he withdrew, Rex withdrew, peering at Kane’s crotch. “I see you’re ready for action. But I’d be hurt, if you didn’t eat and stay tonight.”
